Firas Khatib has been the lead scientist of Foldit, a video game that has allowed hundreds of thousands of players to contribute to biochemical scientific research. His team has worked with and studied how citizen scientists of the online protein folding citizen science video game Foldit—with little or no prior biochemistry experience—uncovered knowledge that eluded scientists for years. The group is interested in combining the power of humans and computers to tackle other difficult scientific problems. The long-term goal of this project is to utilize the combined power of humans and computers in order to build accurate models of disease-related proteins.
