Energy Transport and Ultrafast Spectroscopy Lab

Work in the Energy Transport and Ultrafast Spectroscopy Lab at URI is directed towards energy transport, conversion and storage. Lab members use laser-based optical techniques and state-of-the-art computational tools to study heat transfer at the nano/macro scales.

An overview of the US energy landscape reveals that over 90% of the supplied energy is used to generate heat, yet 70% of all energy produced is lost as rejected heat. Drawing on both experiments, molecular dynamic simulations and density functional theory, Giri and his team use high performance computing in their search to innovate pathways to convert this rejected heat into reusable energy.
