BU Research Computing Services

BU’s Research Computing Services (RCS) enable advances in research via individualized consulting, training, and infrastructure support.

For 45 years, RCS has provided consulting, training, and infrastructure support to thousands of researchers and students on the Charles River and Medical Campuses. RCS supports a wide range of disciplines including Physical Sciences, Engineering, Biological and Medical Sciences, Public and Global Health Research, Business and Economic Research, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Statistics, as well as Data Sciences and Artificial Intelligence.

Housed at the MGHPCC, BU’s Shared Computing Cluster (SCC) is a large heterogeneous Linux cluster comprised of 29,000 CPU cores, 500 GPUs, and 15 PB of storage for research data.

The SCC serves 4,000 researchers in 1,200 projects from 90 departments and centers at the University. In addition, 70 courses from 20 BU academic departments use the SCC. Through Northeast Cyberteam, SCC supports 12 projects at colleges in the Northeast. Last year, researchers computed a total of 100 million core hours at the SCC.

Broadly trained RCS staff provide individualized consulting support and run an extensive training program to assist the community.
