The Northeast Research and Education Network (NEREN) is a member-driven nonprofit organization that provides advanced network connectivity for research, education, and government institutions across the northeastern United States. By interconnecting regional and state research-and-education networks, NEREN helps create the trusted, high-capacity infrastructure needed to support data-intensive science, collaboration, and innovation.
NEREN serves as a backbone connecting research and education communities throughout New England and New York. Through relationships with state networks, universities, research institutions, and national partners such as Internet2, NEREN enables researchers to access computing, storage, instruments, and collaborative resources regardless of where they are located.
MGHPCC participates in the broader NEREN community and shares its mission of strengthening cyberinfrastructure across the Northeast. By linking institutions, regional networks, and national research resources, NEREN helps provide the connectivity that supports distributed scientific workflows, large-scale data transfer, and collaboration among research organizations.
As research increasingly depends on access to geographically distributed computing, storage, data, and AI resources, networks such as NEREN play a critical role in ensuring that these resources can operate as part of an integrated regional and national ecosystem. Together with initiatives such as Internet2 and Northern Crossroads (NoX), NEREN forms part of the networking foundation that supports advanced research and education throughout the Northeast.
