Modern DNA sequencing technologies have transformed biological research, making it possible to study entire genomes, identify disease-associated genetic variants, and explore how genes influence health and disease. Yet generating genomic data is only part of the challenge. Today's sequencing instruments produce vast quantities of information that must be processed, stored, analyzed, and interpreted before meaningful scientific insights can emerge.
The Yale Center for Genome Analysis (YCGA) in the Department of Genetics at Yale School of Medicine serves as one of Yale's core resources for genomic research. The center provides high-throughput sequencing of DNA and RNA using state-of-the-art technologies and supports investigators across Yale, as well as researchers from nonprofit and commercial organizations. The facility is also CLIA/CAP certified for clinical sequencing, enabling genomics research and applications that can directly support advances in medicine.
From studies of rare genetic disorders and cancer to investigations of evolution, neuroscience, and infectious disease, researchers depend on YCGA to generate high-quality genomic data. Yale Research Computing plays a critical role in transforming these raw sequencing reads into biological knowledge by providing the computational infrastructure, data-management capabilities, and analytical tools needed to work with large-scale genomic datasets. Together, YCGA and Yale Research Computing form a powerful partnership that helps researchers answer fundamental questions about human biology and accelerate discoveries with potential clinical impact.
