The Northern Crossroads (NoX) facilitates advanced networking among research institutions and partner organizations across New England. Led by MIT and supported by a broad community of universities and research organizations, NoX promotes collaboration, shared services, and coordinated investment in the networking infrastructure that underpins modern research and education.
Participants include many of the institutions that make up the MGHPCC community, including Boston University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, University of Massachusetts, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and MGHPCC itself. Through regular collaboration and shared networking resources, NoX helps strengthen the region's research cyberinfrastructure ecosystem.
NoX works to foster advanced networking in support of research and education, encourage collaboration among participating institutions, aggregate services that benefit from economies of scale, and represent regional interests within the broader national and international research networking community. The organization also maintains strong connections to initiatives such as Internet2 and other advanced research and education networks.
MGHPCC serves as one of the locations where NoX networking infrastructure is present, helping connect researchers and research computing resources across institutional boundaries. By supporting high-performance connectivity among universities, laboratories, data centers, and national research networks, NoX helps create the foundation on which collaborative research, large-scale data movement, and distributed cyberinfrastructure depend.
